I always take the batteries out of collectors pieces. So I did with this one. To find out it has two separate movements! There is a big movement driving the hours and minutes. It has a big 1.5V battery. This movement says German design but has a silver stamp on it stating Swiss made. The small movement drives the second hand only and is powered by a standard Renata battery. I figure this is the only way to make the design (non coaxial hands) work without a higher complication.

This is a grand Swatch. Everything is well done and the technology complements Scott's design well. The boxes are fantastic. Great!
