Hi all .....
I just went through and repacked my collection (haven't done it in a few years) and I realized I have alot of "multiples". I found 2 or 3 of the same watches, some really good and some maybe not so good, LOL. I don't remember getting "extras", but wondered what you guys do with your extras. Do you swap or sell them, or hang on to them in case one of them stops running?
Also, how much does the value of a collectable watch - say a 4 Flags or a Haring - go down if it doesn't seem to want to run? Are they worthless, or the ones you put in the display holders? LOL
Thanks - Barb
What do you guys do with your "extras"?

I always try to trade doubles into things I don't have yet. For me for most pieces it is enough to have one and trading is good fun. For this reason the Clopedia forum hosts a swapping forum where you can offer your swapping material.
For most Swatches the value goes down a lot when it doesn't work anymore. Many Swatches are unsellable when not functioning so worth next to nothing. Rare Swatches like Harings or a Four Flags do keep some of their value because they are very nice on display. It can also still be worth it to convert into an Automatic or have them recased. Just how much depends on the exact type. Obviously a non working Kiki is still worth a lot of money. A Keith Haring in totally desctructed condition but with dial and hands intact usually still does up to 100 Euro. A Four Flags probably a little more. In new condition but non working? Hard to say, more than 100 Euro for sure but really depending on the day and the bidders. Many many doubles on http://www.mach-4.nl/swatch/hp_forsale.htm!

That sounds good, but I am a little leary of being left with only one, non-working watch ...... I have 3 Serpents, but one now has a "stuck" second hand, it just "jerks". I was told there is no way to fix it, so now it's considered non-working.
I have 2 Gents 4 Flags, but what if I trade one, and the other dies ...... |

A quartz watch with a 'stuck' second hand could just need de-magnetizing. There are machines that do this but I don't thick they are cheap. So you may end up in the shop with it. It's worth a try.
