Welcome to the Squiggly Newsletter of March 21, 2008.

This week we received a nice lot of Pop- Swatches. We also worked hard on the Mother's day page.
We tried to make it easier for you to select a nice Mother's day special by making new pictures and write descriptions of the ones we have in stock. This week Haes from the Forum has chosen 5 new Memory lane watches, which have also been photographed and described. Jasmin is preparing for the upcoming Bijoux next week. More about this in the next newsletter.
Martina made new pictures of the Special Offers and for the Mother's day page. Jeroen, Elske and Iris made sure that all mail and all packages were sent on time.

3 Mother's Day



Mother's Day is celebrated to honor all mothers and express gratitude for the hardships they bear in bringing up a child. Most countries including US, Australia, Canada and India celebrate Mothers Day on the second Sunday of May.

To celebrate this occasion, Swatch has created a number of Mother’s Day Specials. Every year a new special is released. These specials are the perfect gifts for Mother’s Day.


A brief history of Mother's Day:

Different countries celebrate Mother's Day on various days of the year because the day has a number of different origins. One school of thought claims this day emerged from a custom of mother worship in ancient Greece, which kept a festival to Cybele, a great mother of Greek gods. This festival was held around the Vernal Equinox around Asia Minor and eventually in Rome itself from the Ides of March (15 March) to 18 March. The ancient Romans also had another holiday, Matronalia, that was dedicated to Juno, though mothers were usually given gifts on this day. In some countries the Mother's Day began not as a celebration for individual mothers but rather for Christians.

4 Swatch memory lane

On March 1, 1983 the first Swatch watch officially went for sale. The sales started with a launch in Zürich. After 25 years we're still enjoying the fun, elegance and design of our favorite Swatch watches.

Squiggly is going to take you for a walk on Memory Lane. A Street of Swatch watches that can be considered a Swatch Memory. Every week a member of the Swatch-Clopedia forum has the opportunity to take out five watches of this list, and enter 5 new ones.

Here is Haes' choice of this weeks Memory Lane:

At first Haes choice was to change the GK316 and replace it by the GB201. But GB201 was not in stock so Haes had to choose a new watch. Instead of GB201, his new choice for the year 2000 is GX129.

From the year 1983 i like to change the GR 101 and replace it
by the GN700, because I prefer blue and/or black watches AND because it resembles a blue FHL from the year that is very dear to me.
 
From the year 1988 I like to change the LF 101 and replace it
by the LW123
because I am disappointed that 20 years later there still are no new watches in the Spiga/Vendome collection, so boooh to Spiga. The Seventeen Seven brings back nice memories		  
From the year 1996 I like to change the GB 173 and replace it
by the GB175
mainly because 1996 is a very dark year in my life and the "way out" embodies my sentiments. (I joined the Club in 1997 with full force) 		 
From the year 2000 I like to change the GK 316 and replace it
by the GX129.
Also a black watch, also with a twist, also with dear memories. 		 
From the year 2004 I like to change the GE 124 and replace it
by the GB218 black watch of course. the dial reminds me of the sixties ("all you need
is love"). It is that years Valentine watch and I am a valentine!

Nicolas Hayek tulip

On 19 February 2008 in Switzerland is launched for the 80 anniversary the special Nicolas Hayek tulip. It's a complete honor in the Netherlands that there is a tulip that has you’re name. Available in August in Holland.

SC 2008 KiKa Racing for Charity

 

Action KiKa: In September 2007 during the A1 GP at Zandvoort Jeroen Bleekemolen presented the KiKa Swatch. This unique watch, made in a limited edition of 1,000 pieces, is a real collector's item. Squiggly does it's best to offer this watch on its website asap for the normal shop price.
