Swatch memory lane |
On March 1, 1983 the first Swatch watch officially went for sale. The sales started with a launch in Zürich. After 25 years we're still enjoying the fun, elegance and design of our favorite Swatch watches.
Squiggly is walking on Memory Lane. A Street of Swatch watches that can be considered a Swatch Memory. Every week a member of the Swatch-Clopedia forum has the opportunity to take out five watches of this list, and enter 5 new ones. |
Andreas Wiethoff has elected Rob to change this weeks Memory Lane.
Here is Rob's choice: |
LF101 - Spiga |
LF100 - Blue Horizon |
| 1987: The only watch I’m missing in my collection is the GL400VAR Pago Pago with no date. This is truly one of the rarest pieces ever. We don’t have that piece in stock and neither the regular watch, but to honour the rarity of that watch, I have decided to remove the LF101 Spiga and replace it with the LF100 Blue Horizon, the ladies watch that belongs to the Pago Pago. |

GX703 - Courier |
GZ111 - Deux Amoureux |
| 1988: I remove the GX703 Courier and replace it with the GZ111 Deux Amoureux. There’s a nice story to this watch. Dan Komar gave to me a very special strap. As you can see does the Adami watch have a strap spelling his name. The strap Dan gave me spelled: “I love Women”. This strap was an original prototype strap and I was very proud to have it. In all the years I lost the strap and I have never seen it since. So if anyone finds this strap let me know. |

GB141 - Gold Inlay |
GZ122PACK - Hocus Pocus |
1991: The very first Swatch I bought was the GK139 Gulp!!!, but I have decided to add the very first special I bought. It was in a shop in Waalwijk. The dealer made me pay Euro 650.00 and we had to buy 50(!!) standard gents, which we could sell in Italy for the same value. But I did get my first special…. The GZ122 Hocus Pocus.
So I remove the GB141 Gold Inlay and replace it with the GZ122PACK Hocus Pocus. |
GB144 - After Dark |
GZ123PACK - Sam Francis |
| 1992: This is for me the most beautiful watch in the entire Swatch collection with the GB127 Medici’s as a tremendous runner up(already in the Memory Lane). The GZ123 is designed by a painter that knew how to splatter paint, just like the Blue Man Group.
In 1992 I replace the Gb144 After Dark with the GZ123PACK Sam Francis. |

GB151 - Big Enuff |
GB152 - Ellypting |
| 1993. In this year Swatch added something special to the collection, which they abandoned way too soon; the 24 hour movement. Nowadays these watches are still being sold, but at a higher price. Supply and demand create this. If Swatch would now and again add such a model to the collection they would sell well. Why do I add this watch to the Memory Lane? Because I was the first person to discover the variant with the orange second hand; the GB152V1. Made me feel proud then.
I have decided to remove the GB151 and replace it with the GB152 Ellypting. |
