Swatchgroup has a special connection with the Olympic Comittee. Since 1984 Swatch has made special watches for the IOC. These watches were donated to the IOC. The IOC did not sell these watches but they can be given to people that have done something special for the IOC. In the end we always spot these watches and add them to the Swatch-clopedia.
This time a special version of the watch LK243 Strawberry Jam has been found. The official code of this model is LZ108. Probably on a few hundred or even less of this model have been made. Please click the watch to see it on squiggly.com.
We have received the collection for the F/W 2010. The collection is not yet complete. We expect the rest to drip in the the coming weeks. The collection is relatively small, but I have understood a lot of new exciting things are to come in the next months. Not just new models, but complete new designs of watches, bigger Ironies etc.
GB248 Fancy Vibes
Black and white art for the lady’s wrist. The white silicone strap of this intriguing Gent presents a fascinating ‘pied de poule’ design formed of pixillated black dots building changing patterns of illusion. The solid black plastic buckle and black silicone loop frame the solid matt black plastic case, and the white dial takes up the pattern from the strap in a subtle, tone-on-tone variation. Black Arabic numerals indicate 6 and 12 o’clock and square dots mark all other hours. Tapered black hour and minute hands and a slim black seconds hand mark the time of day.

A man of substance and distinctive style makes a confident appearance. The bracelet and case of this impressive Irony Chrono are fashioned of brushed silver stainless steel 316L. Mounted on the case is a stainless steel 316L bezel whose silver tachometric scale emerges in relief from a cool grey resin inlay. The sun brushed silver dial presents a fine black minute ring with orange dot hour markers at all hours and black Arabic numerals indicating all hours but 6, where black-on-white date window appears, and 10, highlighted by its orange numerals. A second ring of Arabic numerals (05, 10, 15, 20, 25, 35, 40, 45, 55) frames the dial’s grey central zone with its subdials. The 60-minute and small seconds counter form a near-identical pair with cinnamon-coloured creusé dials, silver numerals and indexes. The slightly smaller decimal counter has white numerals on a cool grey dial framed by black-on-silver indexes. All counters have squelette silver hands. A slim silver chrono seconds hand registers stop-times; shiny silver hour and minute hands with white superlite highlights mark the time of day.

An impressive timepiece for the man who’ll make his mark. The sculpted light brown leather strap of this massively elegant Irony THE Chrono features high-contrast white stitching on both the strap and the leather loop. The buckle matches the massive case, both in satin-brushed stainless steel 316L. Surrounding the white dial is a flange with both a printed black ring featuring orange Arabic numerals at 5-minute intervals (05,10, 15 …60) and a parallel black-on silver minute ring. The dial features silver hour markers with striped white highlights at all hours but 4, where a black-framed, black-on-white date window appears. The 60-minute and decimal chrono counters and the continuous seconds counter show silver imitation-creusé dials with white-on-black indexes and black numerals; all three counters are set off nicely against a silver imitation-creusé centre. A slim white central chrono seconds hand complements the tapered silver hour and minute hands with superlite white highlights to make the time easy to read by night.

Squiggly feels the pulse of Swatch collecting better than any company in the world. We see models get sold on a daily basis and than suddenly stop, but we also see specific models hit the spotlights two years after they were released. We also see big regional differences.
Lately we have noticed that Scuba’s from the 90′s are more and more ordered from us. Any specific reason? I think there are several reasons. Firstly there is no real Scuba series in the current collection from Swatch. Further is the current Originals (read: Plastic) collection more colorful and this could trigger people in reminiscing of the good old times and re-buy their old Swatch.

The plastic Chrono’s from 1990 and 1991 are still going strong. People still love these watches especially from Italy. Italians in general still love the old Swatch watches and they continue to buy these collectables. Could the fashion-sensitive Italian be the prelude of a revival of Swatch collecting? Can it happen again?
