Diaphane One collection contains only 4 watches, but they are each and every one pieces of watch art. The watches contain a Carousel movement, which is not exactly a Tourbillon, but they come close.

The amazing creation of the Diaphane One is very special. Swatches are still considered a plastic watch with a low price tag, but Swatch this time clearly wanted to make a statement and show its heritage and its breed. The Swatch Group is the worlds largest watchmaker with lots of brands in several price ranges. In 2001 Swatch launched its 2222 Diaphane One watches for the ridiculous price of 3,333 euros! 222 pieces of this limited edition were decorated with rubies, diamonds and sapphires (the colours of the French flag) as a tribute to the new Swatch boutique on the Place Vendome – the only place where they were sold. This watch is an extravagant gimmick on the part of Nicolas Hayek, President of the Swatch Group and it was an immediate success!

The carousel movement moves inside the case what makes this watch so extremely special. The whole movement makes in one hour a full rotation.

Diaphane One Turning Gold

In 2006 Swatch repeated the fun by creating the Diaphane One Turning Gold. This watch is an expression of the watchmaker’s art and a break from its own traditions.  Swatch made this luxury timepiece available in a limited and numbered edition of only one hundred pieces—and only in selected markets. A cheeky and ironic challenge to everyone’s expectations, Diaphane One Turning Gold is a luxury watch again with a carousel movement but also parts made in gold which makes this after the YGZ102 Victory Gold the second watch in gold.

In 2008 Swatch did this trick one more time with the SVAZ101S and SVAZ1012 Turn to Him and Turn to her. Swatch famous for its colourful and affordable plastic watches brought again in extremely limited editions two watches. Diaphane One Turn 2 Her, for women, was made available in a strictly limited, numbered edition of 50 pieces; Diaphane One Turn 2 Him, for men, will be available in a limited, numbered edition of 130 pieces.

Turn 2 Her, SVAZ101S

Turn 2 Her features a pink gold bezel set with 43 diamonds weighing approximately 1.5 carats in all. Engraved on the bezel at 12 o’clock is the limited edition number and the crown too is fashioned of lustrous pink gold. A brushed pink gold flange features engraved hour indices and a ring of swatch logos is engraved on the movement. Exquisite blued steel squelette hour and minute hands and the blued steel small seconds hand indicate the time. A white genuine alligator leather strap enhances and completes this exceptional luxury watch.

Turn 2 Him, SVAZ102S

Turn 2 Him features a nobly worked bezel in matt and polished white gold; the limited edition number is engraved on a white gold plate positioned on the bezel at 6 o’clock with a pair of black screws. Black screws mark the hours on the brushed white gold flange surrounding the movement and black squelette hour and minute hands and a black small seconds hand mark the time. A black genuine alligator leather strap enhances the elegance of this exclusive luxury timepiece.

In my opinion the Diaphane One collection watches are not the rarest Swatch watches, but they are a display of spectacular technical watch art in the most stunning way.
